Summer 2018 Ends Without the Proverbial Bang

The Autumn colors in the area in which we spent our last search season have arrived. It is Sunday, September 23, 2018, the first full day of Autumn. Fenn’s treasure, the one he had a gut feeling about last February, was not recovered. Or, I suppose, there is a small possibility it was recovered, but the recovery was not announced(?)

No. I don’t think so.

It was amazing to watch, and read about the activity from February through early spring, and into mid summer. And, not just the activity, but the bravado! Then, the doldrums set in after his mid summer comment that his “…gut feeling was wavering.”

Doldrums, perhaps, is too polite an adjective to describe the group emotion. Depression. That’s more like it. The numbers in the forums went straight into the bottomless pit of despair, and nothing could change the trajectory.

The good news is that we’ve hit bottom. The buck stops here. We can start planning for next search season!

And, now, each of us must deal with three questions:

  1. Can I afford, mentally, physically, temporally and financially to invest another year in looking for Fenn’s treasure?
  2. Can the people with whom I have relationships tolerate yet another year’s worth of my investment?
  3. Is it possible for me to develop a theoretical solution that kicks the heck out of Fenn’s poem?

Because, that’s what it’s going to take – beating Fenn at his own game. And, pulverizing his poem!

Not an easy job, of course. But, it can, and will be done. Eventually. By one of us. Yes, one of us.

Go out and get ’em, tiger!
